    , Article Desalination ; Volume 454 , 2019 , Pages 1-9 ; 00119164 (ISSN) Zanganeh, P ; Soltani Goharrizi, A ; Ayatollahi, S ; Feilizadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Wettability is one of the most important factors which significantly influences solar still efficiency. Moreover, it determines the condensation mode, i.e., filmwise or dropwise condensation. In the present study, materials with different wettability were applied as the condensing surface to evaluate the effect of wettability on the distillate production of a single slope solar still. To compare the effects of dropwise and filmwise condensation on the condensate yield, the wettability of the condensing surface was changed by applying a nano-silicon solution according to a dip coating technique. All the experiments were conducted at three surface inclination angles. The results revealed that...

Influence of aluminide diffusion coating on the tensile properties of the Ni-base superalloy René 80

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 202, Issue 8 , 2008 , Pages 1385-1391 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Rahmani, Kh ; Nategh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Ni-base superalloy René 80 is widely used in manufacturing aircraft turbine blades. The service temperature of this alloy is in the range of 760-982 °C. Although this alloy possesses suitable mechanical, oxidation and hot corrosion properties, it is coated in order to increase its wear, oxidation, erosion and hot corrosion properties against harmful environmental service conditions. In this paper the influence of applying diffusion coating (CODEP-B) on the tensile properties of René 80 has been studied in the temperature range of 22-982 °C. Experimental results show that the tensile properties of the coated specimens are relatively lower than that of uncoated ones in the same conditions. But...

Axisymmetric time-harmonic response of a transversely isotropic substrate-coating system

    , Article International Journal of Engineering Science ; Volume 45, Issue 2-8 , 2007 , Pages 272-287 ; 00207225 (ISSN) Shodja, H. M ; Eskandari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
By virtue of a method of displacement potentials, an analytical treatment of the response of a transversely isotropic substrate-coating system subjected to axisymmetric time-harmonic excitations is presented. In determination of the corresponding elastic fields, infinite line integrals with singular complex kernels are encountered. Branch points, cuts, and poles along the path of integration are accounted for exactly, and the physical phenomena pertinent to wave propagation in the medium are also highlighted. For evaluation of the integrals at the singular points, an accurate analytical residual theory is presented. Comparisons with the existing numerical solutions for a two-layered...

    , Article ASME Turbo Expo 2005 - Gas Turbie Technology: Focus for the Future, Reno-Tahoe, NV, 6 June 2005 through 9 June 2005 ; Volume 6 PART A , 2005 , Pages 93-102 Beheshti, B. Abstract
Improvements in sealing mechanism between the rotating and the stationary parts of a rurbomachine can extensively reduce the endwall leakage flow. In this regard, abradable seals are incorporated into compressor and turbine blade-tip region. In a gas turbine, equipped with abradable seals, tip of the rotor blade is designed to cut into the material coating of the casing and to form a close fitted circumferential groove for the movement of the blade tip. As a result, the resistance to the leakage flow in the tip gap region increases due to smaller tip clearances (available without any rub-induced damages). Minimizing the tip clearance size can lead to an increase in performance and stability....

Effect of Sr and Ca dopants on oxidation and electrical properties of lanthanum chromite-coated AISI 430 stainless steel for solid oxide fuel cell interconnect application

    , Article Ceramics International ; Volume 39, Issue 7 , September , 2013 , Pages 8123-8131 ; 02728842 (ISSN) Rashtchi, H ; Sani, M. A. F ; Dayaghi, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Lanthanum chromite coating occupies a noticeable position as a ceramic coating on metallic interconnects in solid oxide fuel cells because of its excellent electrical conductivity, high oxidation resistance and desirable chemical stability in both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres. In the present work, a sol-gel process based on the dip-coating technique was used to prepare dense and uniform coatings on metallic alloy for interconnect application (AISI 430 type). The effect of strontium and calcium doping into lanthanum chromite structure on electrical conductivity and oxidation behavior of the coated sample has been investigated. The oxidation behavior was evaluated by cyclic oxidation...

Pre-treatment and oxidation behavior of sol-gel Co coating on 430 steel in 750°C air with thermal cycling

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 206, Issue 16 , 2012 , Pages 3495-3500 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Dayaghi, A. M ; Askari, M ; Gannon, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Research and development efforts continue to improve oxidation resistance and electrical conductivity of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) interconnects. This research evaluates the performance of a ferritic stainless steel (AISI 430 - a candidate SOFC interconnect material) with and without a Co coating (via sol-gel dip coating technique) with various pre-treatments, during cyclic oxidation exposures up to 750°C in laboratory air. A pre-treatment exposure of Co coated samples to a 750°C reducing atmosphere (prior to oxidation exposures) led to the formation of an effective Co-based spinel oxide coating that lowers oxidation rates by more than 40 times, and substantially lowers area specific...

Synthesis photocatalytic TiO2/ZnO nanocomposite and investigation through anatase, wurtzite and ZnTiO3 phases antibacterial behaviors

    Abstract
Titanium dioxide is prepared by sol gel method from titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) as precursor and likewise zinc oxide is prepared by sol gel method from zinc acetate dehydrate (ZAD) as precursor. The composite sols are prepared in three different molar ratios 90TiO2:10ZnO, 70TiO2:30ZnO and 50TiO2:50ZnO. Thin film deposition is carried out by dip coating technique. Crystal structure, surface morphology and photocatalytic activity of the prepared nanocomposite thin films are investigated. The antibacterial activity of the prepared nanocomposite thin film against E-coli ATCC 25922 bacteria is examined by placing the thin film in standard aqueous E-coli medium under UV light for 1, 2, 3 and...

    Abstract
The biodegradation behavior of Mg, coated by polymethyl methacrylate as well as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)−bioactive glass (BG) composite was investigated. Electrophoretic deposition and dip coating techniques were adopted to prepare composite coating using a suspension of different percentages of the above two chemical materials. The deposited coatings were characterized using SEM, EDS, FTIR, and water contact angle measurements. Biodegradation behavior study of the coated Mg was performed using linear polarization, impedance spectroscopy, and immersion tests in simulated body fluid. The compact and homogeneous composite coating was developed as evidenced by electron microscopy results....
