    Abstract
This study aims to investigate the micromixing performance of three basic types of spatial shaped micromixers. New configurations of T, Y, and oriented Y-spatial mixers were designed with change in the angles of the confluence and the outlet channel to achieve the efficient micromixing. These micromixers offer advantages that are not attainable with the typical types of these mixers. Experimental tests were carried out in the laminar flow regime and the mixing efficiency was evaluated using Villermaux/Dushman test reaction. The geometries of the channels were cylindrical with the length of 30 mm and the diameter of 800 μm. The experimental results show that the angle of outlet channel has a...

Study and Improvement of Nano-photocatalytic Process Fordegradation of Chemical Contaminants

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moradi, Sina (Author) ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor) ; Vosoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, photocatalytic oxidation as a potential method for the treatment of organic environmental contaminants is deeply investigated. While the photocatalytic degradation of various organic compounds under UV light irradiation has been widely investigated, visible-light-induced photocatalytic degradation of low-levels of the pollutants such as Dibenzothiophene (DBT) and 2-Nitrophenol (2-NP) are occasionally reported. In the present work, Lanthanide / Polyethylene glycol -modified TiO2 (La/PEG/TiO2) and Fe,Cu,S/TiO2 have been successfully synthesized by a sol–gel method. The photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission...

Au and Pt Nanoparticles Supported on Ni Promoted MoS2 as Efficient Catalysts for 4-Nitrophenol Reduction

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bahrami, Farnaz (Author) ; Gholami, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays environment is under demolition from various aspects which the chemical pollution can be mentioned as an example. The aim of this research is to eliminate the 4nitrophenol as a pollutant through catalysis process. In the current study, to synthesis of the gold nanoparticles on the modified molybdenum de sulfide with nickel (MNi/MoS2 (M=Au, Pt)) an effective method was utilized. In the following, the structural and morphological features of the synthesized nano composites (MNi/MoS2) via different microscopic and macroscopic methods be identified. Obtained results from identification of the materials demonstrated the expected catalysts were synthesized successfully. Finally, to...

Influence of ion interaction on lead removal by a polyamide nanofiltration membrane

    , Article Desalination ; Volume 362 , April , 2015 , Pages 84-92 ; 00119164 (ISSN) Mehdipour, S ; Vatanpour, V ; Kariminia, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2015
    Abstract
Retention of lead(II) ions on a polyamide nanofiltration membrane was investigated. Effects of different factors including operating pressure, lead ion concentration, anion nature, pH and composition of feed on the lead ion rejection were studied. The solutions used consisted of Pb(NO3)2, PbCl2 and PbSO4 in the single-salt solution system and Pb(NO3)2, Cu(NO3)2, Zn(NO3)2, Cd(NO3)2, NaNO3 and NH4NO3 in the binary-salt solution system. The influence of divalent and monovalent cations including cadmium, copper, zinc, sodium and ammonium on the rejection of lead ion was examined. The transmembrane pressure and lead ion concentration varied between 10 and 40bar and 20 and 400mg Pb2+/L,...

    Water treatment using stimuli-responsive polymers

    , Article Polymer Chemistry ; Volume 13, Issue 42 , 2022 , Pages 5940-5964 ; 17599954 (ISSN) Abousalman Rezvani, Z ; Roghani Mamaqani, H ; Riazi, H ; Abousalman Rezvani, O ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Water treatment is a process used to eliminate or reduce chemical and biological contaminants that are potentially harmful to the water supply for human use. Stimuli-responsive polymers are a new category of smart materials used in water treatment via a stimuli-induced purification process and subsequent regeneration of the polymers. Stimuli-responsive polymers dynamically change their physico-chemical properties upon environmental changes. They can undergo shrinkage or expansion, alter their optical properties, and change their electrical characteristics depending on the applied stimuli. In this context, various stimuli-responsive polymer systems such as self-assembled nanostructures,...

Retarding effect of contaminants on the performance of a two-impinging-jets liquid-liquid extraction contactor

    , Article Chemical Engineering and Technology ; Volume 33, Issue 6 , June , 2010 , Pages 1003-1010 ; 09307516 (ISSN) Saien, J ; Doghahe, S. A. O ; Dehkordi, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
In industrial liquid-liquid extraction processes, the feed is not clean liquid but there are various kinds of contaminants in the feed entering the extractors. In this regard, a two-impinging-jets contacting device (TIJCD) was tested through the standard test system recommended by the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE), namely toluene-acetone-water, in the presence and absence of various types of surface-active agents (SAAs). The influences of anionic, cationic, and nonionic SAAs such as sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DTMAC), and octylphenol decaethylene glycol ether (Triton X-100), respectively, on the extraction efficiency and overall...
