, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Mina (Author) ; Khorashe, Farhad (Supervisor) ; Kazemeni, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Exhaust gases from poultry rendering facilities contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are a nuisance, odorous, and smog and particulate matter precursors. Other available treatment options, such as thermal and catalytic incineration require temperature intensive inputs and form additional greenhouse gases. Hence, an inexpensive alternative technology is needed to eliminate these air pollutants. This research investigated the catalytic oxidation of toluene vapors using novel dispersed nano catalysts derived from new preparation method. The combined impregnation (IMP) and deposition-precipitation (DP) was used to prepare supported transition metal oxide catalyst over commercial and...

    Abstract
The preparation and catalytic activity of molybdenum(VI) dioxido complex [MoO2L(C2H5OH)] (L = N′-[1-(2- hydroxynaphthyl)ethylidene]-2-hydroxy benzohydrazide) are reported. The reaction of the respective benzohydrazide ligand and the Mo(VI) dioxido precursor, [MoO2(acac)] (acac = acetylacetonate), in ethanol afforded the [MoO2L(C2H5OH)] complex. Structure of the complex was unequivocally established by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The X-ray structure of complex reveals a six coordinate molybdenum center with a distorted octahedral geometry. By using the AIM analysis, topological properties of the electron density were analyzed to define the bond path between atoms. The AIM...

    Abstract
The oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides with hydrogen peroxide in good yield and high selectivity has been catalyzed very effectively by a series of Schiff base salen-type iron complexes in a monophasic medium (CH 2Cl2/CH3OH) at ambient temperature. The results of the present study show that the reaction rate strongly depends on both catalyst steric effects and steric and electronic properties of sulfides. In the system, the electronic spectral studies are applied to explain the formation of a reactive (salen) Fe=O intermediate

    Abstract
The electro-catalytic oxidation of methanol on a Ni-Cu alloy (NCA) with atomic ratio of 60/40 having previously undergone 50 potential sweep cycles in the range 0-600 mV vs. (Ag/AgCl) in 1 m NaOH was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA) and impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The electro-oxidation was observed as large anodic peaks both in the anodic and early stages of the cathodic direction of potential sweep around 420 mV vs. (Ag/AgCl). The electro-catalytic surface was at least an order of magnitude superior to a pure nickel electrode for methanol oxidation. The diffusion coefficient and apparent rate constant of methanol oxidation were found to be 2.16 × 10-4 cm2 s-1 and...

The catalytic activity increases as the number of electron-donor groups decreases, and the catalytic selectivity is varied by changing the substituents on the ligands. The catalytic system described here is an efficient and inexpensive method for the oxidation of olefins, with the advantages of high activity, selectivity,...

    , Article Journal of Molecular Catalysis A: Chemical ; Volume 179, Issue 1-2 , 2002 , Pages 41-51 ; 13811169 (ISSN) Boghaei, D. M ; Mohebi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2002
    Abstract
Novel vanadyl Schiff base complexes with the general formula VOLx (x = 7-18) were synthesized and characterized by physicochemical methods. Only an orange polymeric form was obtained for VOL13, both brown polymeric and green monomeric forms were obtained for VOLx, x = 16, 17. These observations suggest that in these complexes oxovanadium(IV) exhibit a coordination number of five. Systematic substitution on the ancillary ligand have allowed V(V)/V(IV) reduction potentials to be tuned over a range of approximately 130mV. The complexes are catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of cyclohexene. Catalytic activity increases with increasing V(V)/V(IV) reduction potential and the catalytic selectivity...
