Methane production from anaerobic co-digestion of poultry manure

    , Article Journal of Environmental Studies ; Volume 38, Issue 62 , Sep , 2012 , Pages 83-88 ; 10258620 (ISSN) Roshani, A ; Shayegan, J ; Babaee, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
According to the results, anaerobic co-digester appeared to be feasible with the loading rate of 3.0 kg VS/ m 3.d at 34°C and biogas production rate of 44.8 1/d, which can be used as a fuel resource. It should be mentioned that more heat input is required to achieve the correct operational temperature. This increase in energy may not be outweighed by the increase in the outputs of biogas from the system. Therefore, it is important to consider an energy balance for these systems

    Abstract
The feasibility of measuring CO2 content in biogas was evaluated in this research. Firstly, Curtipot pH simulator was used to visualize the titration behaviors of various percentages of dissolved CO2 in a wide range of concentration of NaOH solution. As a general output of those simulations, it was shown that when the titration curves of different CO2 content samples are separated enough, titration can provided precise information about the value of dissolved CO2. In addition, when the ratio of molar concentration of NaOH to the molar concentration of CO2 is in the range of 1 to 2(equivalent to stoichiometric ratio of bi-carbonate and carbonat), the separability of the curves is enough...

    Abstract
The concept of symbiosis, a mutually beneficial relationship, can be applied to food and energy systems. Greenhouse systems and biogas plants are interesting technologies for food–energy symbiosis, because both are usually based in rural areas and offer opportunities for the exchange of materials (e.g., biomass waste from the greenhouse as input to biogas plants) and energy (heat from biogas co-generation for heating greenhouses). In this paper, the focus lies on manure resources for biogas in Switzerland, because manure amounts are high and currently largely underused. We provide a spatial analysis of the availability of manure as feedstock to biogas plants and heat source for greenhouses....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aliee, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Roshandel, Ramin (Supervisor) ; Avami, Akram (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wastewater treatment plants play an important role within the urban water cycle in protecting receiving waters from untreated discharges. In the developed and developing countries, Energy consumption of these units are 3 and 5 % of the electrical energy demand, respectively. As far as sustainable development is concerned, not only the reduction of WWTP’s energy consumption is mandatory, but also these units should produce energy. To this end, several techniques are available namely: energy audits, replacement of equipment and improvement of process efficiency. Moreover, Energy can be generated by converting biogas -from anaerobic digesters- to heat and power. Todays, Biogas is well-known as...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hodaei Asfahani, Mahdi (Author) ; Vossoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor) ; Ghasemi, Shahnaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The best method for stabilizing sludge is anaerobic digestion, In addition to reducing the amount of volatile solids; it produces biogas, which can be considered as a sustainable energy source for wastewater treatment plants. However, the most important factor limiting the process of digestion is the sludge hydrolysis, the best way to increase the speed of hydrolysis is to pre-treatment the sludge before entering the digester; One of the most effective pretreatment methods is pre-treatment by ozone gas, This gas, which is highly unstable, quickly reacts with the wall of the bacterial cell and oxidizes it due to its high oxidizing properties And accelerates the process of sludge hydrolysis....
