    Abstract
In this paper, an application of arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian method is presented in plasticity behavior of pressure-sensitive material, with special reference to large deformation analysis of powder compaction process. In ALE technique, the convective term is used to reflect the relative motion between the mesh and the material. The convection term is neglected in the material phase, which is identical to a time-step in a standard Lagrangian analysis. The stresses and plastic internal variables are converted to account the relative mesh-material motion in the convection phase. The ALE formulation is then performed within the framework of a three-invariant cap plasticity model in order to...

    Abstract
In this paper, the fluid-structure interaction problem in mechanical systems in which a high frequency vibrating solid structure interacts with the surrounding fluid flow is considered. Such a situation normally appears in many microelectromechanical systems like a wide variety of microfluidic devices. A different implementation of the residual-based variational multiscale flow method is employed within the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation. The combination of the variational multiscale method with appropriate stabilization parameters is used to handle the so-called small time step instability in the finite element analysis of the fluid part in the coupled fluid-structure interaction...

    Abstract
Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) method is widely used for simulation of large deformation problems, such as metal forming. However, in many such applications, modeling of the heat generation and transfer in conjunction with the stress analysis is necessary. In this work, a fully coupled dynamic ALE formulation is developed. The ALE form of energy balance equation is derived, and is coupled with the dynamic, rate dependent ALE stress analysis. The proposed formulation is used for simulation of a few thermo-mechanical problems. The effectiveness and efficiency of the ALE method is verified by comparing the results of this simulation with available experimental and numerical results

    Abstract
In this paper, the so-called small time-step instability in finite element simulation of the fluid part is considered in fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems in which a high-frequency vibrating structure interacts with an incompressible fluid. Such a situation is common in many microfluid manipulating devices. A treatment has been proposed that uses the dimensionless set of FSI governing equations in order to scale up the problem time step to a proper level that precludes the potential small time-step instability. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional finite element simulations of a mechanical micropumping device are performed to verify the efficiency of the presented approach. Solid...
