    Abstract
Physical properties of low cement castable containing 22 wt.% Al 2O3-rich MgO-Al2O3 spinel and 1.7 wt.% CaO with addition of polyacrylates, castament FS20, TPP and citric acid were investigated. Results showed castables including castament FS20 have higher flow values and better final properties comparing with castables including Darvan 7S and TPP. Also in this study we investigated the effect of addition of microsilica up to 4 wt.% on the properties of alumina-spinel castables. Microsilica is the finest particles in the system and due to suitable distribution of microsilica among other particle the open porosity reduced and mechanical strength increased. Slag penetrations resistance...

    Abstract
Hydroxyapatite is the most important bio ceramic, due to its structure and chemical composition which is similar to bone. Since feeble fracture toughness, brittleness and low tensile strength have restricted their use, for overcoming this problem, they were often used as a secondary component. HAp-Al2O3 nano-composite powder combined the benefits of biocompatibility of HAp and high strength of Al2O3. When HAp-Al2O3 nano-composite powders were sintered at a higher temperature than 1100- 1200°C, HAp was decomposed and converted to the second phase of TCP, due to the formation of calcium aluminate increasing decomposition speed of HAp to TCP at higher degree than 1100-1200°C temperatures;...

    Abstract
Alumina-MWCNT composite was densified by microwave sintering. CNTs were coated with boehmite nanoparticles to enhance their distribution in composite samples. Calcination temperature of composite powder was determined by TGA analysis (5 °C/min). Samples containing 0 and 1vol%CNT were produced by cold isostatic pressing at 180 MPa. Microwave sintering (1520 °C for 45 min) was conducted under the flow of argon. Phase analysis of the calcined composite powder showed complete transformation of boehmite into gamma-alumina. The relative densities were 99.3% and 98.1% for monolithic alumina and composite, respectively. CNT addition improved the fracture toughness of alumina by ~37%. SEM images...

    Abstract
Cobalt supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-covered alumina has been recently developed and successfully utilized as a catalyst in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS). Problems associated with shaping of Co/CNTs into extrudates or pellets as well as catalyst attrition rendered these materials unfavorable for industrial applications. In this investigation regular γ- and nano-structured (N-S) alumina as well as CNTs-covered regular γ- and N-S-alumina supports were impregnated by cobalt nitrate solution to make new cobalt-based catalysts which were also promoted by Ru. The catalysts were characterized and tested in a micro reactor to evaluate their applicability in FTS. γ-Al2O3 was prepared by...

The relation between particle size and transformation temperature of gibbsite to αLPHA-alumina

, Article Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy: Transactions of the Institute of Mining and Metallurgy ; 2020 Ahmadabadi, M. N ; Nemati, A ; Arzani, K ; Baghshahi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Taylor and Francis Ltd  2020
    Abstract
The transformation of gibbsite to α-alumina occurs in the range 1100 to 1300°C. The higher the calcination temperature, the larger the crystallites and this leads to abnormal grain growth. The main goal of this research was to reduce the transformation temperature of gibbsite to α-alumina by reducing the gibbsite particles size. The sodium content of the gibbsite used in the study was reduced to less than 0.1% by washing it in HCl solution. It was then ground in a fast mill at ambient conditions for different times then calcined at different temperatures. The microstructure, particles size and thermal behaviour of the samples were examined with SEM, XRD, XRF, PSA and STA, respectively. In a...
