    The effect of new corrosion inhibitors, namely pyridine, 2-methylpyridine (2-picoline), 4-methylpyridine (4-picoline), 2,4-dimethylpyridine (2,4-lutidine), on the corrosion of Al-surface in hydrocholoric acid (HCl) and nitric acid (HNO3) was investigated at the HF and B3LYP level using the ab initio 6-3IG and LANL2DZ basis sets from the program package Gaussian 98 (A.7 Public Domain version). The physico-chemical properties of corrosion inhibitors are one of the principal criteria for the determination and selection of inhibitors.     Hydrogen evolution and electrosorption on/in TiHg alloy have been investigated in acidic solution using cyclic voltammetry, open circuit potential transient, steady-state polarization, chronopotentiometry and electrochemical impedance measurements. Comparison has been made with pure Ti. Cyclic voltammetry and open circuit potential measurements show that hydrogen absorption into the electrode material occurs during proton discharge. The steady-state polarization curves in the course of positive and negative potential scans illustrate that the formation of absorbed hydrogen slightly improves the electrocatalytic properties of the electrode.     Abstract
    The effect of ambient temperature on the parameters of the single-bubble sonoluminescence in sulfuric acid (SA) diluted in water is studied. Using a hydrochemical model, three dominant instabilities of shape, Bjerknes, and diffusion are considered. The phase diagrams of the bubble in the (R 0 - P a) space are presented, and the parametric dependence of the light intensity is discussed. In contrast to water, the calculated thermal-bremsstrahlung mechanism of light emission at the fixed degassing condition of high SA concentrations shows that, with increasing the temperature of aqueous SA solutions, the light intensity increases.     Abstract
    Sonoluminescence (SL) radiation from an argon bubble in water and in different concentrations of sulfuric acid has numerically been studied to quantify the effects of vapor pressure and viscosity of the liquid on cavitation luminescence in a liquid with controllable vapor pressure and viscosity. For the solutions containing the noble gas with low partial pressure (about 4 Torr), it is shown that there exists an optimum acid solution in which both the temperature and the intensity of SL radiation become maximum.     In this research, gel production from the extracted pectin gel of shahroud sugar beet pulp has been investigated. The pectin extractions were performed in a cold alkaline solution and a hot acid solution, respectively. The effects of different parameters, such as percent of sugar, pectin concentration, calcium content and quantity of peroxidase enzyme, hardness and content of water absorbed by the gel, were studied.     Ab initio quantum chemical calculations at the density functional theory (DFT) level were performed on eight pyridine derivative molecules as corrosion inhibitors for iron in an acidic solution. In this regard, the geometry of the molecules were optimized using the B3LYP/6-31G method first, and then interactions of these optimized structures with the iron atom were explored using the B3LYP/LANL1MB method.     The oxygen-barrier properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(vinyl acetate-co-vinyl alcohol) [P(VAc-co-VA)] were investigated. P(VAc-co-VA)s with vinyl alcohol (VA) contents of 5, 10, and 15 mol % were prepared with the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of poly(vinyl acetate). The obtained copolymers with various contents of VA were blended with PLA at 5/95, 10/90, and 15/85 compositions. Films of the blends were prepared by a solution-casting method with chloroform as the cosolvent. Although the blend with 5% VA in the copolymer appeared to be miscible, the blends with 10 and 15% VA content in the copolymer were immiscible, as verified by dynamic mechanical analysis.     Herein, a simple and novel method was used to synthesize a new structure of graphene which can be called hollow graphene. First, the ZnO-Graphene QDs synthesized by solution method and then ZnO QDs were dissolved from this structure using an acidic solution to obtain hollow structure of graphene. Afterward, this structure was used in PbS QDs solar cell in order to improve the transport of electron and decrease the recombination of the carriers.     The present study evaluates the reductive leaching of indium from indium-bearing zinc ferrite using oxalic acid as a reducer in sulfuric acid solution. The effect of main factors affecting the process rate, including the oxalic-acid-to-sulfuric-acid ratio, stirring rate, grain size, temperature, and the initial concentration of synergic acid, was precisely evaluated.     Superhydrophobic surfaces demonstrate significant characteristics which make them suitable for a wide variety of applications. In this study, we propose a facile, one-step, and cost-effective anodizing scheme using aluminum nitrate/stearic acid mixture solution to create a superhydrophobic surface on an aluminum mesh. The surface outperforms the surface anodized by the widely used oxalic acid solution in terms of superhydrophobicity and water-surface friction behavior.     In order to improve titanium corrosion behavior, we can increase the thickness of oxide layer on titanium surface during anodizing process and by electrochemistry. In this research, self-color anodizing of Ti in sulfuric acid was done, and anodizing layers were created in different colors. The highest value of chromaticity was 37.8 for the anodized sample in 10 V, and the lowest value was 8.6 at 15 V. The oxide layer thickness was calculated by optical method (light refraction).     This study focuses on the effect of co-deposition of PTFE and/or MoS 2 particles on the morphology, wear, and corrosion properties of electroless nickel coating. The composite coating of EN-PTFE-MoS 2 was heat treated at different temperatures for hardness investigations. The surface morphology of coatings was characterized by scanning electron microscopy. Pin-on-disk and potentiodynamic polarization tests were used to study the tribological and corrosion properties of the coatings, respectively.     Preparing a selective, efficient, and low-cost solar absorber is one of the main challenges in solar to thermal energy conversion. In this paper, black electroless Ni–P (ENi-P) solar absorber has been fabricated, and the effect of nanoporous TiO2 antireflection layer (ARL) on its optical and corrosion properties has been investigated.     In this project, the protective effect of Biebersteinia multifida root extract (BMRE) against corrosion of 1018 low carbon steel (1018LCS) in HCl solutions was appraised by assessing weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and polarization at 25 °C. The maximum inhibitory efficacy for the concentration of 1 g/l of the BMRE was 92.8% at 25 °C after 2 h and increased to 95.3% after 24 h of immersion. Polarization experiments have shown that the extract in acidic solutions can act as a mixed corrosion inhibitor.
