Core-shell electrospun polybutylene terephthalate/polypyrrole hollow nanofibers for micro-solid phase extraction

    , Article Journal of Chromatography A ; Volume 1434 , 2016 , Pages 19-28 ; 00219673 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Rezvani, O ; Banihashemi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2016
    Abstract
In the present work, a new micro-solid phase extraction (μ-SPE) sorbent as an extracting medium based on core-shell nanofibers was synthesized by electrospinning. The core-shell nanofibers of polyvinylpyrrolidone-Polybutylene terephthalate/polypyrrole (PVP-PBT/PPy) were electrospun and subsequently, modified hollow nanofibers were prepared by removing the central PVP moiety. Moreover, conventional PBT/PPy was also prepared for the comparison purposes. The homogeneity and the porous surface structure of the core-shell nanofibers were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The applicability of the fabricated nanofibers-coating was examined by immersed μ-SPE of some selected triazine...

Three-dimensional nanofiber scaffolds are superior to two-dimensional mats in micro-oriented extraction of chlorobenzenes

    , Article Microchimica Acta ; Volume 185, Issue 7 , 2018 ; 00263672 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Manshaei, F ; Rezvani, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer-Verlag Wien  2018
    Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) polyamide scaffolds were fabricated by applying a solvent bath as the collecting element. Electrospun nanofibers were immersed into the solvent bath to give a material with a laminated 3D texture. In parallel, 2D nanofibers were synthesized and utilized as microextractive phases in a needle trap device to compare the capabilities of 2D and 3D materials in terms of headspace extraction of various chlorobenzenes (chlorobenzene, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene and 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorobenzene). The results demonstrate the superiority of 3D nanofibrous scaffolds over 2D mats. The porosity, morphology, and thermal stability of the 3D scaffolds...

Silane–based modified papers and their extractive phase roles in a microfluidic platform

    , Article Analytica Chimica Acta ; Volume 1128 , 2020 , Pages 31-41 Hashemi Hedeshi, M ; Rezvani, O ; Bagheri, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
Herein, some (modified) paper–based substrates were prepared and utilized as extractive phases in a microfluidic device and their extraction performances examined for analytes with different polarities. Reagents including hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS), phenyltrimethoxysilane (PTES), (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) and 3–(2,3–epoxypropoxy) propyltrimethoxysilane (EPPTMOS) were implemented for the modification process. Due to the induction of different silane functional groups, it was anticipated to have various interactions for the tested analytes. Eventually, the prepared paper sheets were used as extractive phases for solid–phase extraction within a microfluidic system. The...

    Water treatment using stimuli-responsive polymers

    , Article Polymer Chemistry ; Volume 13, Issue 42 , 2022 , Pages 5940-5964 ; 17599954 (ISSN) Abousalman Rezvani, Z ; Roghani Mamaqani, H ; Riazi, H ; Abousalman Rezvani, O ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Water treatment is a process used to eliminate or reduce chemical and biological contaminants that are potentially harmful to the water supply for human use. Stimuli-responsive polymers are a new category of smart materials used in water treatment via a stimuli-induced purification process and subsequent regeneration of the polymers. Stimuli-responsive polymers dynamically change their physico-chemical properties upon environmental changes. They can undergo shrinkage or expansion, alter their optical properties, and change their electrical characteristics depending on the applied stimuli. In this context, various stimuli-responsive polymer systems such as self-assembled nanostructures,...

    Abstract
Electrostatic fiber fabrication technique has evinced more interest and attention in recent years, owing to its versatility, reliability, and potential for applications in diverse fields, particularly separation, extraction, and filtration. The sub-micro fibers are generated by employing strong electric field on polymeric solutions or melt is led to the soft nanometric mats. So far, more than 100 polymers have been Electrospun and this number is gradually increasing. Over recent decades, a remarkable variety of electrospun nanofibers as promising and authentic extracting platforms have been synthesized. They offer various advantages including high surface area-to-volume ratio and tunable...
