    , Article Ceramics International ; Vol. 40, issue. 3 , April , 2014 , pp. 3961-3968 ; ISSN: 02728842 Hemmati, K ; Hesaraki, S ; Nemati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study, different concentrations of ascorbic acid (50, 100 and 200 μg/mL) were added to the liquid phase of a calcium phosphate cement (CPC). The cements were immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF) for different intervals and physical, physicochemical and mechanical properties of them were evaluated. The release of added ascorbic acid from CPCs into the SBF solution was also studied. From the results, both setting time and injectability of CPC decreased by adding ascorbic acid, however the compressive strength was sharply increased before soaking in SBF solution. But, the compressive strength values of all cements (with or without ascorbic acid) soaked in SBF solution for more than 7...

    Abstract
This investigation focused on a comparison between hydroxyapatite (HA) and carbon-nanotube-reinforced hydroxyapatite composite (CNTs/HA) coatings. The HA and CNTs/HA composite (with 5wt% CNTs) coatings were prepared with the sol-gel method on 316L stainless steel. Phase evaluation by means of XRD and Raman spectroscopy was performed on the HA and CNTs/HA composite coatings. The coatings were immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF) in order to evaluate the biological properties of the coatings. During the first week of immersion, the increase in the amount of Ca2+ precipitation in the SBF when CNTs/HA was used was lower than for the HA coatings. This behavior can be related to the difference...

    , Article Defect and Diffusion Forum ; Volume 334-335 , 2013 , Pages 258-263 ; 10120386 (ISSN) ; 9783037856628 (ISBN) Ghasemzadeh, M ; Nemati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Different concentrations of CaF2 were incorporated in mica glass-ceramics to evaluate their effects on the crystallization and microstructure. The kinetics of phase transformations, and the microstructures of the final crystalline phase were found to be dependent on the concentration of nucleation agents. The results showed that CaF2 in high concentration had a synergistic effect and enhanced the formation of interlocked mica crystals. Non-isothermal DTA experiments showed that the crystallization activation energies of base glasses were changed in the range of 235-405 kJ/mol, while the crystallization activation energies of samples with addition of CaF2 were changed in the range of 419-747...

    Abstract
Formation of transparent glass-ceramic in the system MgO-SiO 2-Al 2O 3-K 2O-B 2O 3-F with and without addition of LiF and NaF has been investigated. Crystallization of glass-sample was conducted by controlled thermal heat-treatment, at determined nucleation and crystallization temperatures. In this regard, the effects of addition of LiF and NaF were investigated on the crystallization behavior and transparency of the samples. Low transmission (less than 80% at 600. nm) was observed in the basic composition (K).The addition of NaF and LiF caused more intense phase separation in the system. The results indicated that the glass-ceramic can remain transparent if fine grains with nano size are...

Crystallization behavior of mica glass-ceramics with nanophase structure

    , Article Synthesis and Reactivity in Inorganic, Metal-Organic and Nano-Metal Chemistry ; Volume 42, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 420-423 ; 15533174 (ISSN) Ghasemzadeh, M ; Nemati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The influence of Zr 2 on the crystallization behavior, microstructure, and machinability of SiO 2-Al 2O 3-MgO-K 2O-B 2O 3-F glasses was investigated. The crystallization of the glass-ceramic was markedly affected by addition of ZrO 2. These glasses crystallize more rapidly. The number of mica crystals increases, whereas the size of the mica crystals decreases drastically. Machining of these glass-ceramics was found to be good, as confirmed by a drilling test using conventional steel tools. Such mechanical properties are attributable to the microstructure of these glass-ceramics. Very fine crystals are homogeneously distributed in glass matrix

    , Article Materials Forum, 18 October 2011 through 20 October 2011 ; Volume 35 , October , 2011 , Pages 20-30 ; 08832900 (ISSN) ; 9781876855369 (ISBN) Ghazi Daryani, A ; Nemati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Recent investigations show that ceramic/ceramic joints have high potential for applications in industry. Cost and difficulty in manufacturing complex components, either in one step or by joining of ceramic-metal and ceramic-ceramic, have inhibited more widespread use. It is important to know how to join components without problems and to understand the role of the interface as the main factor controlling the properties in these joints. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the joining of two ceramics with metal fillers (SiC to SiC and Al2O3 to Al2O3) and to investigate the interface of SiC/SiC and Al2O3/Al 2O3 with the same metal interlayer (Ag-Cu-Ti) and the effects on the...

Investigation of dark and light conductivities in calcium doped bismuth ferrite thin films

    , Article Materials Letters ; Volume 65, Issue 19-20 , October , 2011 , Pages 3086-3088 ; 0167577X (ISSN) Kianinia, M ; Ahadi, K ; Nemati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Electrical conductivities in dark and light were investigated in Calcium doped Bismuth Ferrite thin films. Higher dark conductivity, in the order of 10 times higher than conductivity of bismuth ferrite, was observed for Bi 0.85Ca0.15FeO3 - δ. Structural analyses using Rietveld refinement showed a deviation from volume reduction for Bi 0.85Ca0.15FeO3 - δ which could be the reason of abnormally high conductivity for this compound. Although higher calcium doping reduced conductivity, photoconductivity was observed again. Atomic Force Microscopy investigations showed that surface roughness and grain size decreased with increasing calcium concentration. Enhanced photoconductivity is reported for...

    Abstract
M-type Ce–Co substituted barium hexaferrite nanoparticles were synthesized by sol–gel auto-combustion route. The general formula of ferrites was Ba1−xCexFe12−xCoxO19 in which the x was considered to be: x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3. The formed phases in the samples were characterized by using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer. The results indicated that an increase in substitutional ion amount caused to decrease vibration frequencies of Fe–O band in the tetrahedral site due to the substitution of heavier Co2+ ion for Fe3+ ion in the tetrahedral site. Moreover, some of Ce3+ ions was transformed to Ce4+ and...

    Abstract
Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are rapidly becoming recognized as a new alternative to traditional energy conversion systems because of their high energy efficiency. From an ecological perspective, this environmentally friendly technology, which produces clean energy, is likely to be implemented more frequently in the future. However, the current SOFC technology still cannot meet the demands of commercial applications due to temperature constraints and high cost. To develop a marketable SOFC, suppliers have tended to reduce the operating temperatures by a few hundred degrees. The overall trend for SOFC materials is to reduce their service temperature of electrolyte. Meanwhile, it is...
