Re-Creation of Lost Gas Layer on Superhydrophobic Surfaces with Micro/Nanostructures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jabari Farokhi, Salar (Author) ; Mosavi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to their unique characteristics, such as drag reduction, anti-fouling, and enhancing condensation, hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces have attracted a lot of attention in the past decades. Since approximately 4% of the fossil fuel usage and 14-19% of the air pollution (including greenhouse gases, sulfur, and so forth) are attributed to naval activities, and the dominant form of drag on vessels is friction, drag reduction will not only reduce the cost and usage of fossil fuels, but it will also have numerous environmental benefits

Nonlinear Controller Design for Stree-By-Wire Passenger Car

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mosavi Nejad, Iman (Author) ; Kazemi, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today safety is one of the major competition factors in automotive industries . The vehicles of today are more and more dependent on electronic systems , for driving safety and ease on control for the driver . Some systems are more or less standard in vehicles on the market , examples of such systems are ABS , ABC , etc. Despite of the effect of these systems on vehicle dynamics ,because they only control longitudinal dynamics and don't receive any feedback from vehicle lateral behavior , now control systems ,named VDC , have been developed and implemented in advanced vehicles. The operation of such systems is as this that in any time instance they evaluate vehicle dynamical behavior....

Investigating and Explaining Dr. Golshani’s Points of View about Religious Science

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mosavi, Zahra (Author) ; Hassani, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Entrance of secular science to Muslim societies has made them face a duality. That is because, on the one hand, they like to preserve their religious values; and on the other, prevalence of secular ideas prevents people from being committed to such values. Therefore, some Islamic scholars proposed religious science as opposed to Western secular science as a remedy to this crisis In case of religious science, explanatory model has the highest position, but disagreement over how to combine experimental and religious characteristics has led to different models in this area. One of the explanatory models of religious knowledge is that of Doctor Mehdi Golshani which has received due attention at...

    Abstract
In this work nanocomposite CNT/polysulfone and CNT/polyethersulfone membranes for membrane contactor application in gas separation were fabricated. The two types of CNTs used for chemical and physical separation of H2S from a mixture of CH4 an H2S, had the outer diameter of 20-30nm and 50-100nm. One of the greatest concerns about using membrane contactors for gas separation applications is the wetting of membranes which consequently leads to decrease in separation performance. The aim of this study is to enhance the hydrophobicity of membranes by mixing hydrophobic carbon nanotubes in the polymeric matrix. The effect of factors like type of the polymer, diameter of the carbon nanotube and...

Overview on the separation and removal of Haloaceticacid'S in drinking water

    , Article 4th WSEAS International Conference on Waste Management, Water Pollution, Air Pollution, Indoor Climate, WWAI '10, 3 May 2010 through 6 May 2010, Sousse ; 2010 , Pages 25-31 ; 9789604741908 (ISBN) Tababaee Ghomsheh, S. M ; Soltanieh, M ; Mosavi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
The increase of pollution and the expansion of industrial, agricultural wastewater and urban runoff discharges in water sources have intensified the concentration of water pollutants. Considering that in Iran as in other countries the major part of drinking water is obtained from surface waters and due to the importance of disinfection, chlorination is doubtlessly the optimum and most common water treatment method used. However this method produces chlorination by-products (CBPs). Trihalomethanes(THMs) and Haloaceticacids (HAAs) are the main and most important groups of disinfection by-products (DBPs). Separation of THMs has gained a lot of breakthroughs since a lot of time elapses from its...

Study and Preparation of Suitable Polymer Compound for Radiation Masks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Almas Ganj, Ali (Author) ; Mosavi Soghondikolaei, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
External radiotherapy is a major method of treating cancer. In this method, penetrating rays such as X-rays, alpha, beta and gamma emitted from the device are used to treat cancer. In order to emitting rays only to the cancer cells, masks are used to stabilize the patient's body in the right position during the radiotherapy, so that the rays are not emitted to the healthy tissues of the patient's body. In this dissertation, first, different methods of making radiotherapy masks are examined. Next, polycaprolactone is proposed as the main material for making the mask. Due to its low tensile strength, this material alone is not suitable for the intended use. Therefore, the material was cured...

Modeling the detection efficiency in photodetectors with temperature-dependent mobility and carrier lifetime

    , Article Superlattices and Microstructures ; Volume 122 , 2018 , Pages 557-562 ; 07496036 (ISSN) Moeini, I ; Ahmadpour, M ; Mosavi, A ; Alharbi, N ; Gorji, N. E ; Sharif University of Technology
    2018
    Abstract
We proposed a modeling procedure to calculate the impact of temperature on the detection efficiency in photodetectors based on CdTe materials. Temperature increase impacts on the electrical properties of the materials such as carrier mobility and carrier recombination lifetime. This impact which can be effective in some cases has been normally ignored in the modeling approaches presented in the literature. Here we show that increasing the temperature from 190 K to 300 K not reduces the mobility of both electrons and holes but also significantly reduces the carrier lifetime. The result will impact on electric-field within the depletion width of the device, drift and diffusion lengths which...

Modeling the time-dependent characteristics of perovskite solar cells

    , Article Solar Energy ; Volume 170 , 2018 , Pages 969-973 ; 0038092X (ISSN) Moeini, I ; Ahmadpour, M ; Mosavi, A ; Alharbi, N ; Gorji, N. E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2018
    Abstract
We proposed two different time-dependent modeling approaches for variation of device characteristics of perovskite solar cells under stress conditions. The first approach follows Sah-Noyce-Shockley (SNS) model based on Shockley–Read–Hall recombination/generation across the depletion width of pn junction and the second approach is based on thermionic emission model for Schottky diodes. The connecting point of these approaches to time variation is the time-dependent defect generation in depletion width (W) of the junction. We have fitted the two models with experimental data reported in the literature to perovskite solar cell and found out that each model has a superior explanation for...

Laboratory scale experiments were conducted in order to investigate the photolysis of Reactive Blue 19 (RB 19) dye using UV as the irradiation source in alkaline solution. The effects of operating parameters such as, pH, initial dye concentration, UV dosage, hydrogen peroxide and oxygen have been evaluated. The results indicate that the UV photolysis process in alkaline solution is ideal for decolorizing of RB 19 and it can be taken as a starting step to establish the economical feasibility of the method for the decolorization of wastewater from textile industries

Biodecolourization and Biodetoxification of Dye-containing Wastewaters from Textile Dyeing by the Native Fungal Strain Phanerochaete Chrysosporium and Trametes Species

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alimohammadi, Fatemeh (Author) ; Borghei, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Mosavi, Abas (Supervisor) ; Ghobadi Nehad, Zahra (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Treatment of Wastewater of textile industries has been always challenging due to the high organic matter which is a suitable substrate for the growth of microorganisms. Also, discharge of wastewater into the open water causes water adsorbing more sunlight, raising water temperature and therefor decreasing dissolved oxygen. In addition, the acidity of wastewater decreases the quality of agricultural soil. Among wastewater treatment methods, biological methods are cheaper, environment friendly, and produce less by product. Among all the microorganism responsible for biological treatment, fungi and enzymes are more applicable. Especially white-rot fungi are the most effective microorganism to...

    Abstract
The aim of this study is to employ feedback control loops to provide a stable forward dynamics simulation of human movement under repeated position constraint conditions in the environment, particularly during stair climbing. A ten-degrees-of-freedom skeletal model containing 18 Hill-type musculotendon actuators per leg was employed to simulate the model in the sagittal plane. The postural tracking and obstacle avoidance were provided by the proportional—integral—derivative controller according to the modulation of the time rate change of the joint kinematics. The stability of the model was maintained by controlling the velocity of the body's centre of mass according to the desired centre of...

    Earthquake Branch

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagher Shemirani, Ali Reza (Author) ; Bakhshi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the past few decades, shaking tables are widely used to evaluate system response of structures under seismic excitations. These devices are used without any fundamental research performed on a shaking table system as an entity model. In most of these studies for simplicity, it is assumed that there exist no considerable vibration and displacement around the shaking tables, and no attention is paid to the peripheral substances such as soil settled under the foundation.
In this thesis, result of ambient vibration test on shaking table system (solid deck, concrete foundation and soil layer) has been presented. Precise sensors known as low frequency and high accuracy accelerometers have...

Comparison between Performance of Stone Columns and RAPs from the Bearing Capacity and Settlement Reduction Viewpoints

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Golestani Dariani, Ali Akbar (Author) ; Pak, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Out of several ground improvement techniques available, stone columns have been widely used. This technique has been successfully applied to increase the bearing capacity and to reduce the settlement for foundation of structures like liquid storage tanks, earthen embankments, raft foundations, etc., where a relatively large settlement is permissible. This technique has, generally, been proven successful in increasing the stiffness of weak soils, upgrading their safe bearing capacity, and reducing their total and differential settlements, as well as speeding up their consolidation process. The beneficial effects of stone column installation in weak deposits is manifested in the form of...

Improvement of Stability of Haptic Force Interaction with Virtual Environments Using a Haptic Interface with a Separate Tracker

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mashayekhi, Ahmad (Author) ; Meghdari, Ali (Supervisor) ; Nahvi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present study, a new version of haptic devices is presented in which user’s hand is in contact with the device just while collision with virtual surface. In this system, the position of user’s finger can be traced by using a camera and the haptic device follows user’s finger at the distance of about two centimeters. While the haptic device approaches to the virtual surface, gradually reduces its speed and stops about two centimeters distant of virtual plane. Then user’s hand collides with the haptic device which is static. Greater fidelity, transparency, more stability and also no need to large actuators are of the advantages of this system. In this project, first we present a new...
