    , Article Energy and Buildings ; Volume 91 , 15 March , 2015 , Pages 115-130 ; ISSN: 3787788 Setayesh, H ; Moradi, H ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Control of the air-handling units (AHU) is required to maintain satisfactory comfort conditions with low energy consumption. In the case of failure in sensor fusion systems of AHUs, full-order observers can be used as the supportive tool to provide an acceptable estimation of state variables. In this paper, a multivariable nonlinear model of the AHU is considered in the presence of uncertainties. The indoor temperature and relative humidity are controlled via manipulation of valve positions of air and cold water flow rates. In proposed hybrid control system, full and minimum-order observers are designed for the estimation of indoor temperature and relative humidity. Also, a regulator for...

Global optimization and design of dynamic absorbers for chatter suppression in milling process with tool wear and process damping

    , Article Procedia CIRP ; Volume 21 , 2014 , Pages 360-366 ; ISSN: 22128271 Saadabad, N. A ; Moradi, H ; Vossoughi, G ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Peripheral milling is extensively used in manufacturing processes, especially in aerospace industries where end mills are used for milling of wing parts and engine components. The generation of complex shapes with high quality for various types of materials is the main advantage of milling in contrast to other machining processes. During the milling process, the occurrence of self-excited vibrations or chatter may cause reduction in material removal rate (MRR), damage to the tool and spindle bearing or may result in poor dimensional accuracy and surface finish of the work-piece. In this paper, milling process is modeled as two degrees of freedom (2DOF) system in which the tool wear and...

    , Article International Journal of Mechanical Sciences ; Vol. 87, issue , 2014 , p. 163-178 Asmari Saadabad, N ; Moradi, H ; Vossoughi, G ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Due to flexibility, relatively small weight and low energy-dissipative characteristics of cables, they are vulnerable to external excitations such as wind, wind-rain, earthquake and traffic loadings. Among them, galloping phenomenon is one of the most important sources of electrical/mechanical failures in power transmission lines. In this paper, tuneable vibration absorbers (TVAs) are used to suppress galloping forced vibrations (as a semi-active control approach). Using mode summation technique, mathematical model of the hybrid problem including the transmission line and an arbitrary number of absorbers is presented. Developing a sophisticated multi-loops optimization algorithm, best values...

    Abstract
To guarantee the safety and efficient performance of the power plant, a robust controller for the boiler-turbine unit is needed. In this paper, a robust adaptive sliding mode controller (RASMC) is proposed to control a nonlinear multi-input multi-output (MIMO) model of industrial boiler-turbine unit, in the presence of unknown bounded uncertainties and external disturbances. To overcome the coupled nonlinearities and investigate the zero dynamics, input-output linearization is performed, and then the new decoupled inputs are derived. To tackle the uncertainties and external disturbances, appropriate adaption laws are introduced. For constructing the RASMC, suitable sliding surface is...

After assessing the deficiencies of the previous models and control strategies proposed for the human body, an active control method is presented based on pole placement analysis. This control strategy is designed for a realistic model of the human body...

    Abstract
This paper presents sliding mode control and model reference adaptive control strategies for the tape transport mechanism. A nonlinear multivariable MIMO model of the process, consisting of take-up and supply reel servos for tape tension control and capstan servo for speed control is considered. The sliding mode control is applied for the nonlinear dynamic model of the process, while the model reference adaptive control deals with the linearized one. Moreover, in order to associate with the realistic model of system, design of controllers is accomplished with respect to parametric uncertainties. It is shown that both control strategies can guarantee asymptotic stability of the closed-loop...

    Abstract
Large amplitude oscillation of the power transmission lines, which is also known as galloping phenomenon, has hazardous consequences such as short circuiting and failure of transmission line. In this article, to suppress the undesirable vibrations of the transmission lines, first the governing equations of transmission line are derived via mode summation technique. Then, due to the occurrence of large amplitude vibrations, nonlinear quadratic and cubic terms are included in the derived linear equations. To suppress the vibrations, arbitrary number of the piezoelectric actuators is assumed to exert the actuation forces. Afterwards, a Lyapunov based approach is proposed for the robust adaptive...

    Abstract
In this paper, a nonlinear robust adaptive sliding mode control strategy is presented for the influenza epidemics in the presence of model uncertainties. The nonlinear epidemiological model of influenza with five state variables (the numbers of susceptible, exposed, infected, asymptomatic and recovered individuals) and two control inputs (vaccination and antiviral treatment) is considered. The objective of the proposed controller is decreasing the number of susceptible and infected humans to zero by tracking the desired scenarios. As a result of this decreasing, the number of exposed and asymptomatic individuals is also decreased and converged to the zero. Accordingly, it is shown that the...

    , Article Journal of Sound and Vibration ; Volume 435 , 2018 , Pages 390-408 ; 0022460X (ISSN) Karimi, B ; Moradi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Academic Press  2018
    Abstract
Environmental issues and energy crisis have caused the world attention to the renewable energies; especially the wind power, since they have low cost and high reliability. To achieve higher capacity, wind turbines have increased in their size over the years. However, the large size of the modern turbines has exacerbated the problem of vibrations, which results in lower efficiency and power generation. Because of the large deformations, the conventional linear theories cannot model the blades accurately, due to the importance of nonlinear effects in large scale wind turbines. In this research, a nonlinear kinematic model of the wind turbine blade is developed using the Hamilton's principle....

    , Article Renewable Energy ; Volume 127 , 2018 , Pages 495-508 ; 09601481 (ISSN) Golnary, F ; Moradi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, dynamic modelling and control of WindPACT 1.5 MW wind turbine in Region 2 for extracting the maximum energy from wind is investigated (where the wind velocity is greater than ‘cut in’ and below ‘rated’ wind speeds). In this region, the generator torque must regulate the rotor speed in its optimal value while the blade pitch angle is considered constant in its optimal value. To achieve a more accurate model, wind turbine is modeled as an electromechanical system with two masses dynamics. A new method based on adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is considered for wind speed estimation; where rotor speed, output power and pitch angle are inputs of such system and...

    Abstract
Mixed-model assembly lines (MMALs) are a type of production lines where a variety of product models similar to product characteristics are assembled in a just-in-time production system. Usually, MMAL consists of a number of stations linked by a conveyor belt and each station has a work zone limited by upstream and downstream boundaries. To avoid improper interference between operators in the adjacent stations and excess of machine moving range, operators are forced to complete their operations within their predetermined work zone. There is a set of criteria on which to judge sequences of product models in terms of the effective utilisation of these lines. In this paper, the sequence of...

All of these models are considered to have fully parametric uncertainties. The stability, tracking convergence and parameters identification convergence during the chemotherapy process are proved using the Lyapunov method. For the first time, the parameters identification of the uncertain...

In this research, nonlinear sliding mode pitch control of a wind turbine has been investigated by considering aerodynamic nonlinearities. For modeling aerodynamic interaction between the wind and the drive-train system, blade element momentum theory is used by considering Prandtl's tip loss factor and Glaurt correction. Finally, the two-degrees of freedom model of the drive-train is extracted and the sliding mode approach is examined for regulating the output power into its nominal value by controlling the pitch angle. The implementation of the above proposed control law in its related electronic circuit of the wind turbine will be considered as the future stage of the current research. ©...
