    , Article 2020 Iran Workshop on Communication and Information Theory, IWCIT 2020, 26 May 2020 through 28 May 2020 ; August , 2020 Malek, S ; Salehkaleybar, S ; Amini, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The belief propagation algorithm is a state of the art decoding technique for a variety of linear codes such as LDPC codes. The iterative structure of this algorithm is reminiscent of a neural network with multiple layers. Indeed, this similarity has been recently exploited to improve the decoding performance by tuning the weights of the equivalent neural network. In this paper, we introduce a new network architecture by increasing the number of variable-node layers, while keeping the check-node layers unchanged. The changes are applied in a manner that the decoding performance of the network becomes independent of the transmitted codeword; hence, a training stage with only the all-zero...

    Abstract
This paper addresses design of an adaptive fuzzy decentralized fault-tolerant controller for a class of uncertain multi-input multi-output (MIMO) large-scale nonlinear systems with unmodeled dynamics subject to unknown state time-varying delay, external disturbances, unknown input saturation and actuator faults. It is shown that the proposed fault-tolerant control (FTC) scheme can handle infinite number of actuator failures including partial and total loss of effectiveness. System uncertainties have been approximated by the fuzzy logic systems (FLSs). To cope with the unknown state time-varying delay, the Razumikhin lemma has been utilized and unmodeled dynamics has been tackled by...

    Abstract
In this paper, the design of an adaptive tracking control for a class of switched uncertain multiple-input–multiple-output nonlinear systems in the strict-feedback form with unmodeled dynamics in the presence of three types of input nonlinearity under arbitrary switching has been addressed. By means of an intelligent approximator like a fuzzy logic system or a neural network, the unknown dynamics are estimated. The unmodeled dynamics have been tackled with a dynamic signal. A universal framework for describing different types of input nonlinearity including saturation, backlash, and dead zone has been utilized. By applying the backstepping approach and the common Lyapunov function method,...

    Abstract
a graph into specific subgraphs. Specially, decomposing the edges of a complete graph into cycles with determined length draws the main attention. Most of the former works in this area were studied the Alspach conjecture. In another words, Alspach conjecture states that ” Is the obvious necessary conditions for decomposing a graph into cycles (equality of the edges count with sum of cycle lengths) with specified length but not necessarily identical are also sufficient.” Different cases of Alspach conjecture have been studied and proved completely. The decomposition of a complete graph into cycles with the same length k is called k-cycle system. Steiner triple system is a 3-cycle system....

    , Article Materials Chemistry and Physics ; Volume 78, Issue 3 , 2003 , Pages 796-799 ; 02540584 (ISSN) Malek, K ; Gobal, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2003
    Abstract
Electrodeposition/dissolution of cadmium onto a film of mercury shows some deviations from the natural liquidity of mercury caused by the reduction of Cd onto it. Percolation and fractal analyzes were done on the surface and the bulk of the mercury film during diffusion of Cd species (atoms). These show that the fractal dimensions of the Cd-inserted mercury film are about 2.11 and 2.54 near the surface of the mercury film and at deeper points inside the film, respectively. The insertion process has a negligible effect on the surface morphology of the mercury film and there is a phase transition in the bulk, as well as a geometrical transition during the Cd-insertion (de-insertion) process....

Controller Design For Fractional Order Switched Systems

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Malek, Alireza (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Switched systems as a subset of hybrid systems have both discrete and continuous behaviors and have attracted a lot of attention during the past decades. A set of subsystems or modes whose sequence is specified by a switching rule makes the switched system. Another category of systems is the fractional order system in which the order of derivatives is not limited to integers. This feature has provided a significant capacity for this type of system. On the other hand, every real system faces a set of limitations that neglecting them may reduce the quality of control or even lead to system instability. The purpose of this research is to model and control the switched system, whose subsystems...

    Abstract
Laser-assisted friction stir processing was used to modify the microstructure of an as-cast gamma prime strengthened nickel base superalloy. The grain structure of top region of the stir zone, where full dissolution of gamma prime precipitates occurred during heating, is controlled by discontinuous dynamic recrystallization mechanism and the pinning effect of refined carbides and cooling gamma prime precipitates. In the bottom of the stir zone, the partial dissolved gamma prime precipitates play important role in grain structure development by their pinning effect in retarding grain growth during cooling as well as by a continuous recrystallization mechanism

    Abstract
Formation of unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers lacking of thermal stability in non-aqueous electrolytes of rechargeable batteries is the main bottleneck for their long-life cycling, especially at elevated temperatures. Inclusion of a small dose of functional electrolyte additives into the batteries' electrolyte can be highly beneficial to surmount this issue. Of these additives, vinylene carbonate (VC) has drawn particular attention thanks to its high ability to build protective layers at anodes showing good integrity and outstanding thermal stability. In addition to its primary roles in present-day lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), VC additive has also been examined in other...

    Abstract
Cardiovascular (CV) system is very similar to a wireless communication system in which a common input signal from the heart is fed into different arterial channels throughout different body parts. By putting multiple sensors on different peripheral body sites effects of this circulation from the heart can be recorded and be used as inputs for different multi channel blind system identification (BSI) methods for estimation of arterial channel dynamics. This Thesis is defined in order to investigate different BSI methods capability in CV characterization. To achieve this goal photoplethysmogram signals has been used as primary sensory recorded effect of heart function at three different...

Control of Base Metal Capacity of Welded Connections under Multiaxial Loading

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Malek Ghaini, Niloofar (Author) ; Maleki, Shervin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Block shear failure in the parent material is considered as a common potential failure mode in welded connections used in steel structures. However, there is only little research reported on the block shear failure of welded connections under multiaxial loading. Multiaxial loading is defined as loading not parallel or perpendicular to weld lines and in the case of in planar eccentricity results in torsional loads. In this research a nonlinear finite element model is developed to study the effect of connection geometry, weld group configuration, and eccentricity of lap splice connection on block shear capacity. The case studied concerns a 3 milimeter thick structural steel plate (CSA G40.21...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nazari, Neda (Author) ; Malek Khachatourian, Adrineh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Supercapacitors are safe and environmentally friendly energy storage devices that have been considered for their diverse applications. One of the most important factors that control supercapacitors' capacity is the electrode material's structure and properties. Adding heteroatoms or composite materials synthesis is one way to improve electrode performance. In this study, a facile, fast, and economical hydrothermal method was used to synthesize N doped, P doped or N/P co-doped 3D reduced graphene oxide (rGO) for high-performance supercapacitor application. Nitrogen and phosphorus elements were replaced by carbon atoms simultaneously during the graphene oxide hydrothermal reduction procedure....

Synthesis of Titanium Carbide Mxene-Carbonaceous Material Composite as Capacitive Deionization Electrode for Water Desalination

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zargar, Ali (Author) ; Khachatourian, Adrineh Malek (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Capacitive deionization (CDI) is a suitable method for water desalination with low energy consumption and high efficiency, which does not have secondary pollution and is environmentally friendly. The hybrid capacitive deionization uses a faradaic electrode next to the carbonaceous electrode, taking advantage of both electrodes, and high capacities have also been reported. Titanium carbide Mxene is an important candidate in CDI due to its high electrical conductivity and tunable interlayer distance, but Mxene suffers from low oxidation resistance. Therefore, in this research, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) that is an essential member of the 2D transition metal dichalcogenides family, was used as...

    Abstract
In a typical surveillance radar, decision about the existence of a target in certain range-azimuth-elevation cell is made from the echo received in current scan, while still there is useful information in history of that range cell that is not considered in decision making. Based on the potential of the Hough Transform to use history of both range and Doppler information, a new method to increase the probability of detection in surveillance radars is proposed. The new method uses a 3D data space and a special projection to detect targets and extract range, speed, and acceleration of maneuvering targets simultaneously

Comparing and Improving the Minimum Spanning Tree Algorithms in MapReduce

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Malek Abbasi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Ghodsi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent decades, we have faced the enormous growth of data and graph volumes. This requires modern ways of computation and storage systems and algorithms. MapReduce is a known way of processing Big Data in a Parallel and primarily Distributed setting. Theoretical models (e.g., Massively Parallel Computation) for Algorithms using this paradigm commonly evaluate the number of rounds and needed communication. We study the Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) as a fundamental graph problem. This problem in MapReduce is harder for sparse graphs. We introduce an algorithm that performs well comparing previous studies, especially for sparse graphs. We present an empirical study by implementing some...
