    Ionic liquids (ILs) are a growing trend in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) studies as alternatives to commercial surfactants due to their environmentally friendly nature, and their resistance in harsh temperatures and salinities. ILs are customizable and come in an immense variety, and therefore, it is vital that different combinations of cation/anion be investigated for use in the industry.     To synthesize a novel biopolymer-based superabsorbent hydrogel, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) was grafted onto kappa-carrageenan (KC) backbones. The graft copolymerization reaction was carried out in a homogeneous medium and in the presence of ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator, N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl ethylenediamine (TMEDA) as an accelerator, and N,N'-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker.     Abstract
    The composition of the essential oil obtained from the dried flowering aerial parts of Chenopodium botrys L. (Chenopodiaceae) was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Forty-one components have been identified in the essential oil of C. botrys. The major components of the essential oil were γ-terpineol (52.8%), p-cymene (19.0%) and iso-ascaridole (7.0%). © 2007 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

    Gold (Au) nanoparticles are widely used in diagnosing cancer, imaging, and identification of therapeutic methods due to their particular quantum characteristics. This research presents different types of aqueous models and potentials used in TIP3P, to study the effect of the particle size and density of Au clusters in aquatic environments; so it can be useful to facilitate future investigation of the interaction of proteins with Au nanoparticles.     A novel kappa-carrageenan (C)-based superabsorbing hydrogel was synthesized through graft copolymerization of acrylamide (AAm) onto a C substrate in the presence of a crosslinking agent. Twenty components have been identified in the essential oil of M. vulgare.     Abstract
    A novel full-polysaccharide superabsorbent hydrogel was synthesized via chemical crosslinking of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and sodium alginate (Alg) using epichlorohydrine (ECH) as a crosslinker. A proposed mechanism for hydrogel formation was suggested and the structure of the product was established using FTIR spectroscopy. The influence of ECH concentration and Alg/CMC weight ratio as well as reaction time and temperature on water and saline (0.9 wt% NaCl) absorbency of the hydrogels were systematically investigated.     In this paper, uranium sorption onto amberlite CG-400 anion exchange resin in the presence of phosphate anions was studied. The effect of contact time between the sorbent and aqueous solution, pH, initial concentration of uranium and temperature were also investigated. Kinetic studies show that uranium sorption onto amberlite CG-400 resin in the presence of phosphate is a fast process and follows pesudo-second-order kinetics. It was also found that the pH value and the presence of phosphate play very important roles in the uranium sorption onto CG-400 resin.     Continuous fixed-bed column studies were carried out by using Amberlite CG-400 anion exchange resin for the recovery of uranium from aqueous solutions (synthetic solutions and uranium conversion facility (UCF) liquid waste). Effects of operating parameters such as flow rate and bed height were studied. The breakthrough capacity decreases with increasing flow rate, but this dependence was not significant with a long column. The maximum breakthrough capacity of uranium ions were achieved by CG-400 resin at a flow rate of 0.2 mL min-1 and bed height 9.1 cm (4 g resin).     A distinct viewpoint is adopted by each centrality to analyze a network and rank its nodes. This study aims to introduce a novel centrality that ranks the nodes of a network more effectively. In this respect, a function of five centralities, namely betweenness, closeness, agent vector, degree, and Katz, is introduced to maximize the connected components of the network after ranking its nodes and deleting the first twenty ones.     Abstract New bi-anchoring donor-π-acceptor metal-free organic dyes based on diphenylamine as donor, and barbituric acid and thiobarbituric acid as the acceptor/anchor were synthesized, characterized and used in dye-sensitized solar cells applications.     This paper introduces a multi-task 4 DOF pole climbing/ manipulating robotic mechanism. A hybrid serial/parallel mechanism, providing 2 translations and 2 rotations, have been designed as the main part of the mechanism. This robotic mechanism can travel along tubular structures with bends, branches and step changes in cross section. It is also able to perform manipulation, repair and maintenance tasks after reaching the target point on the structure.
