    Energy absorption in plastic expansion of circular metal tubes

    Abstract
    This paper investigates a new method of dissipating energy in which a rigid tube is driven into the deformable tube under axial compression. Since there is a specific clearance between the rigid and deformable tubes, the deformable tube is expanded during axial compression, and the impact energy is absorbed by plastic expansion of deformable tube and frictional energy between deformable and rigid tubes. Quasi-static axial compression tests with different values of friction coefficient between rigid and deformable tubes are performed.     Abstract
    In this study, an industrial acetylene hydrogenation unit is simulated utilizing three available kinetic models. The results are compared against six-day experimental data and the best model is selected. Effects of feed temperature and the amount of injected hydrogen on ethylene selectivity are also studied. According to the simulation results, the unit is not working under its optimum conditions. Furthermore, by reduction of the hydrogen flow rate to 52 kg/h, process selectivity is increased.     Abstract
    The influence of milling and subsequent annealing on nickel-ferrite phase formation was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Microstructure and magnetic properties of NiFe 2O 4 were determined by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and vibration sample magnetometry (VSM). Single phase nanosized nickel-ferrite was obtained by 30 h mechanical alloying (MA) and subsequent annealing at 600 °C for 1 h. Magnetic properties of the milled powder were extensively affected by the annealing temperature. Considerable growth of the particles and necking by sintering resulted from annealing at 1000 °C

    The Ugi reaction goes fast with high yields in a recyclable and biodegradable low-melting mixture of choline chloride and urea (DES) as a novel and efficient reaction medium. The DES is applicable to a wide range of aldehydes, amines, isocyanides, and acids in good to excellent isolated yields (60-92%) and short reaction times (2-5 h) and can be reused four times without any loss of activity

    A chemoselective synthesis of tetraketone and xanthene derivatives, by means of tandem Knoevenagel condensation and Michael addition in choline chloride-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs), is presented. The reaction of readily available aldehydes and active methylene compounds in malonic acid- and ZnCl2-based DES gives various xanthenes derivatives with good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions.     Abstract
    A novel approach is obtained during the fabrication of NiCoFe-B nanotube arrays via electroless method. Porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates fabricated by anodization of aluminum foil were sensitized using PdCl 2 solution and immersed into electroless plating baths at room temperature to produce nanotube arrays. Compositional and morphological properties of the nanotube arrays are characterized. Results indicates the formation of end-closed nanotubes with the dimension of 100-130 nm in outside diameter, which is determined by the pore size of the AAO template, and about 15 nm in thickness of tube walls.     Abstract
    Properties of FeCo nanocrystalline intermetallic powders prepared by salt-matrix hydrogen reduction of a milled Fe 2O 3-Co 3O 4 mixture were investigated. The product of 72 ks ball-milling at 350 rpm was CoFe 2O 4 nanopowder. Reduction of this powder for 3.6 ks by hydrogen at 750 °C resulted in the formation of Fe 0.67Co 0.33 stoichiometric compound. Scanning electron microscopy, electron dispersive spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and vibrating sample magnetometry were used to characterize the nanopowder. Using a salt-matrix (NaCl as a dispersion medium) resulted in the decrease of the reduction temperature and improvement of the morphology and magnetic properties of the nanopowder....

    Most recent findings on structural and magnetic properties of Fe-Ni-Co nano-powders produced by mechanical alloying and subsequent low-temperature hydrogen reduction are presented in this paper. At 300 rpm, with ball to powder weight ratio of 20, single phase nickel-cobalt ferrite is mechanically synthesized for 50 h. The as-milled powder is then subjected to 1 h hydrogen reduction at 700 °C. Hydrogen reduction results in the formation of Fe-16.5%Ni-16.5%Co nano-powders.     A single step supercritical method was introduced for synthesis of “magnetite - reduced graphene oxide (M-rGO)” composite in supercritical methanol. Modified surface, smaller size, lesser cytotoxicity, and homogenous dispersion of Fe3O4 nanoparticles on the graphene surface were advantages of this new M-rGO composite in comparison to the materials synthesized by conventional wet chemical method (M-GO). Nanocomposites were injected in tissue equivalent phantoms of agarose gel in 10 mg/g dosage, and were irradiated by a 1600 mW laser beam at wavelength of 800–810 nm.     Observability of bulk power transmission network by means of minimum number of phasor measurement units (PMUs), with the aid of the network topology, is a great challenge. This paper presents a novel equivalent integer linear programming method (EILPM) for the exhaustive search-based PMU placement.
