Diagrammatic approach for constructing multiresolution of primal subdivisions

    , Article Computer Aided Geometric Design ; Volume 51 , 2017 , Pages 4-29 ; 01678396 (ISSN) Bartels, R ; Mahdavi Amiri, A ; Samavati, F ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2017
    Abstract
It is possible to define multiresolution by reversing the process of subdivision. One approach to reverse a subdivision scheme appropriates pure numerical algebraic relations for subdivision using the interaction of diagrams (Bartels and Samavati, 2011; Samavati and Bartels, 2006). However, certain assumptions carried through the available work, two of which we wish to challenge: (1) the construction of multiresolutions for irregular meshes are reconsidered in the presence of any extraordinary vertex rather than being prepared beforehand as simple available relations and (2) the connectivity graph of the coarse mesh would have to be a subgraph of the connectivity graph of the fine mesh. 3...

Quantum critical phase diagram of bond alternating Ising model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction: Signature of ground state fidelity

    , Article Physica Status Solidi (B) Basic Research ; Volume 250, Issue 3 , 2013 , Pages 537-541 ; 03701972 (ISSN) Amiri, N ; Langari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
We present the zero temperature phase diagram of the bond alternating Ising chain in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. An abrupt change in ground state fidelity is a signature of quantum phase transition. We obtain the renormalization of fidelity in terms of quantum renormalization group without the need to know the ground state. We calculate the fidelity susceptibility and its scaling behavior close to quantum critical point (QCP) to find the critical exponent which governs the divergence of correlation length. The model consists of a long range antiferromagnetic order with nonzero staggered magnetization which is separated from a helical ordered phase at QCP. Our results...

Phase-I Risk-Adjusted Geometric Control Charts to Monitor Health-care Systems

    , Article Quality and Reliability Engineering International ; 2014 ; ISSN: 1099-1638 Mohammadian, F ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Amiri, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Because of the importance of health-care processes to people life, researchers attempted to reduce death rates using risk-adjusted control charts. In this paper, the number of patients survived at least 30days after a surgery is monitored using a novel risk-adjusted geometric control chart. In this chart, the patient risk is modeled using a logistic regression. The new scheme is proposed to be used in Phase-I where a likelihood ratio test derived from a change-point model is employed. The application of the proposed chart is demonstrated in a case study. Furthermore, through simulation studies, it is shown that the proposed control chart is more effective in terms of power than the chart...

    Abstract
The present paper developed and validated a numerical procedure for the calculation of turbulent combustive flows in converging and diverging ducts. Through simulation of the heat transfer processes, the amounts of production and spread of NOx pollutants were measured. Also, this paper reported the results of a numerical investigation of the effects of the fuel Molecular Weight on NOx emissions in converging and diverging ducts. The fuels which were examined were methane, naphtha, and kerosene. The differential equations in the Von-Misses coordinate system were transformed to a cross-stream coordinate system in order to concentrate more grid lines near wall boundaries. A marching integration...

    Abstract
Spontaneous imbibition is well-known to be one of the most effective processes of oil recovery in fractured reservoirs. However, the detailed pore-scale mechanisms of the counter-current imbibition process and the effects of different fluid/rock parameters on this phenomenon have not yet been deeply addressed. Thiswork presents the results of a newpore-level numerical study of counter-current spontaneous imbibition, using coupled Cahn-Hilliard phase field and Navier-Stokes equations, solved by a finite element method. A 2D fractured medium was constructed consisting of a nonhomogeneous porous matrix, in which the grains were represented by an equilateral triangular array of circles with...

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2018
    Abstract
In this letter, the problem of source localization using time difference of arrival (TDOA) is investigated. Then, a closedform two-stage solution is proposed based on estimation of the range nuisance parameter in the first stage and refinement of initial solution in the next stage. The proposed solution is shown analytically and verified by simulations to be an efficient estimate, which can attain the CRLB performance under mild Gaussian noise assumption. This method is able to locate the source with the minimum number of sensors required for N-dimensional localization. Numerical simulations demonstrate significant performance improvement of the proposed method compared with the...

Efficient algebraic solution for elliptic target localisation and antenna position refinement in multiple-input-multiple-output radars

    , Article IET Radar, Sonar and Navigation ; Volume 13, Issue 11 , 2019 , Pages 2046-2054 ; 17518784 (ISSN) Amiri, R ; Behnia, F ; Noroozi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Institution of Engineering and Technology  2019
    Abstract
In this study, an algebraic closed-form method for jointly locating the target and refining the antenna positions in multiple-input-multiple-output radar systems is proposed. First, a set of linear equations is formed by non-linear transformation and nuisance parameters elimination, and then, an estimate of the target position is obtained by employing a weighted least-squares estimator. To jointly refine the target and antenna positions, the associated error terms are estimated in the sequence. The proposed method is shown analytically and confirmed by simulations to attain the Cramér-Rao lower bound performance under small-error conditions. Numerical simulations are given to support the...

Efficient joint moving target and antenna localization in distributed MIMO radars

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications ; Volume 18, Issue 9 , 2019 , Pages 4425-4435 ; 15361276 (ISSN) Amiri, R ; Behnia, F ; Noroozi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a novel solution for the problem of joint moving target and antenna localization in the distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems is proposed. The localization problem in the presence of antenna location uncertainty is formulated as a maximum likelihood (ML) estimation problem, which is then recast into convex form by defining some auxiliary variables and applying semidefinite relation (SDR) technique. Next, an algebraic closed-form estimator is proposed to jointly estimate the target and the antennas error terms and refine their uncertain values. The proposed method is shown analytically and verified by the numerical simulations to be an efficient...

Electrophoretic deposition of nano-zirconia coating on AZ91D magnesium alloy for bio-corrosion control purposes

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 311 , 2017 , Pages 182-190 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Amiri, H ; Mohammadi, I ; Afshar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2017
    Abstract
Magnesium alloys are considered as potential biodegradable biomaterials in hard tissue implants. However, the fast degradation rate of these alloys in the biological environment causes failure of the implant just prior to the desirable time. In the present work, in order to decrease and curb the bio-corrosion rate of AZ91D Magnesium alloy, zirconia, which is classified as a biocompatible ceramic, was coated on the alloy surface through electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technique. The effects of alterations in the EPD parameters such as current density, duration time and ZrO2 particles concentration on coating properties including thickness, morphology and adhesion were then characterized....

A joint scheme of antenna placement and power allocation in a compressive-sensing-based colocated MIMO radar

    , Article IEEE Sensors Letters ; Volume 6, Issue 10 , 2022 ; 24751472 (ISSN) Ajorloo, A ; Amini, A ; Amiri, R ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2022
    Abstract
The spatial sparsity of targets in the radar scene is widely used in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar signal processing, either to improve the detection/estimation performance of the radar or to reduce the cost of the conventional MIMO radars (e.g., by reducing the number of antennas). While sparse target estimation is the main challenge in such an approach, here, we address the design of a compressive-sensing-based MIMO radar, which facilitates such estimations. In particular, we propose an efficient solution for the problem of joint power allocation and antenna placement based on minimizing the number of transmit antennas while constraining the coherence of the sensing matrix....

    Abstract
In an electronic warfare environment, an electronic support system receives signals emitted by different radars. One of the key tasks in an electronic support system is PRI estimation tracking Pulse Trains using Pulse Repetition Interval (PRI) of these signals. In this paper we present a simple method for PRI estimation and tracking radar pulse trains with complex PRI Modulations. This method uses nonlinear least square, Pisarenko and innovative methods for PRI estimation and tracking pulse train. Simulation results show high robustness of the proposed method against noise (spurious and missing pulses)

A probabilistic artificial neural network-based procedure for variance change point estimation

    , Article Soft Computing ; Vol. 19, issue. 3 , May , 2014 , pp. 691-700 ; ISSN: 14327643 Amiri, A ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Moghadam, A. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Control charts are useful tools of monitoring quality characteristics. One of the problems of employing a control chart is that the time it alarms is not synchronic with the time when assignable cause manifests itself in the process. This makes difficult to search and find assignable causes. Knowing the real time of manifestation of assignable cause (change point) helps to find assignable cause(s) sooner and eases corrective actions to be taken. In this paper, a probabilistic neural network (PNN)-based procedure was developed to estimate the variance change point of a normally distributed quality characteristic. The PNN was selected based on trial and error among different types of...

    Abstract
Hybridization of conventional vehicles is considered an important step to achieve high fuel economy and low emissions. In this study, principle considerations involved in a hybridizing process are discussed and consequently, a sequential approach for designing hybrid components for both series and parallel configurations has been introduced. The so called approach has then been applied to one of the productions of Iran-Khodro Company called SAMAND. Having designed the hybrid components, the conventional SAMAND and its series and parallel hybrid configurations were defined and evaluated using the ADvanced VehIcle SimulatOR (ADVISOR) software. It is observed that compared to the conventional...

    Abstract
Prediction of accident frequency based on traffic and roadway characteristics has been a very significant tool in the field of traffic management. The accident frequencies on 185 roadway segments of the city of Mashhad, Iran, for the year 2007, were used to develop accident prediction models. Negative Binomial Regression, Zero Inated Negative Binomial Regression, Support Vector Machine and Back-Propagation Neural Network models were used to fit the accident data. Both fitting and predicting abilities of the models were evaluated through computing error values. Results show that the NBR model is the most effective model for predicting the number of accidents because of its low prediction and...

    Abstract
An existing operational trisonic wind tunnel is upgraded to improve its performance criterion in the transonic regime. In this research, the test section is modified according to the operational requirements of the various existing transonic wind tunnels. Several perforated walls are designed, manufactured, and installed on the top and bottom sides of the test section. The flow in the test section of the wind tunnel is surveyed for the empty condition prior to testing models. Once satisfactory results regarding the flow quality requirements in the test section under various conditions were achieved, a 2D model, NACA 0012, and a 3D standard model for the transonic wind tunnels, AGARD-B, are...

A genetic optimization algorithm for nonlinear stochastic programs in an automated manufacturing system

    , Article Journal of Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems ; Volume 28, Issue 3 , 2015 , Pages 1461-1475 ; 10641246 (ISSN) Fazlollahtabar, H ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Muhammadzadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    IOS Press  2015
    Abstract
We concern with both time and cost optimization in an automated manufacturing system. In our proposed system, material handling is carried out by automated guided vehicles and robots for the manufacturing functions. In this way, defect rates, breakdown times, waiting time, processing time, and certain other parameters are not expected to be deterministic. Therefore, we apply stochastic programming to optimize the production time and material handling cost. The proposed stochastic program is a nonlinear model, for this reason we apply a successive linear programming (SLP) technique for its optimization. Numerical test results point to the inefficacy of the proposed optimization method for...

Energy absorption of friction stir welded 1050 aluminum sheets through wedge tearing

    , Article Materials and Design ; Volume 93 , 2016 , Pages 216-223 ; 02641275 (ISSN) Amiri, M ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Kokabi, A. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2016
    Abstract
In this research, 1050 aluminum alloy sheets were welded through Friction Stir Welding technique at different rotational speeds (ω) and advance rates (V) in order to investigate the effects of welding parameters on the energy absorption. Wedge tearing test was then conducted on the specimens in two directions of 0 and 90 degrees relative to the weld line. Energy absorption was revealed to be much higher in the welded specimens in comparison with the non-welded sheets. This increase in the amount of absorbed energy is due to the fine equiaxed grain structure formed in the stir zone of the weld which increases the strength. It was also concluded that when movement of the wedge is parallel to...

    Abstract
Medium wettability plays the main role during spontaneous imbibition (SI) in fractured porous media; however, one can rarely find pore-scale studies addressing wettability effects on this process. In present work Cahn-Hilliard phase field coupled with Navier-Stokes equations were solved using finite element method to simulate counter-current SI in a horizontal heterogeneous porous medium containing fracture. Capillary governed fluid displacement in media with different contact angles - ?=p/10 (extremely water-wet) up to ?=p/2 (neutral wet) - were simulated. The simulated models realistically captured micro-scale mechanisms during imbibition process in strongly water wet media, e.g., oil film...
