    Aalborg University press  2020
    Abstract
The Iranian government has set a target of a 20% share of non-fossil fuel electricity generation by 2030, whose main result is reducing Green House Gas (GHG) emissions (about 182 million tonnes in 2017) to achieve the targets pledged under the Paris Climate Accord. So, this paper presents a comprehensive model on the expansion of non-fossil technology to evaluate the impact of increasing their share in Iran’s electricity supply system. This analytical approach is based on system dynamics (SD) that was developed based on dynamic behavior of electricity market, with an emphasis on the expansion of non-fossil fuels (solar photovoltaics, wind turbines, expansion turbines, and hydro power) in the...

    , Article International Journal of Sustainable Energy Planning and Management ; Volume 30 , 2021 , Pages 75-96 ; 22462929 (ISSN) Abbasi Godarzi, A ; Maleki, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Aalborg University press  2021
    Abstract
As part of its Paris Agreement commitment, Iran pledged to decrease 4 % of its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from 2020 to 2030. About 29% of total emission in Iran belongs to electricity supply while energy consumption in other sectors (transport, household, and industry) have a lower share in CO2 emission. The main concern here is finding the optimal mix of power plants in the electricity supply system that should be deployed to meet Iran’s mentioned respective targets and considering simultaneously interests of consumers and producers in this energy system. So, we developed a non-linear mathematical programming model for Iran’s electricity system to address this concern with changing...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abbasi, Babak (Author) ; Pak, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Sand production in petroleum industry is a phenomenon of solid particles being produced together with reservoir fluid. This phenomenon is costing industry billions of dollars every year. Corrosion of the pipelines and other instruments, sand-oil separation cost, possible wellbore choke and repeated shut-in and clean-up of the wellbore are some of examples of the costs. On the other hand, a controlled sanding or even sand production invocation has proved to be very effective in increasing production rate, especially in heavy oil recovery, asphalt wells and low PI wells. Discovering the best sand controlling procedure in oil extracting wells, parameters that have the most important effects on...

Design and Simulation of ELoran Receiver

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abbasi, Fatemeh (Author) ; Fotowat Ahmadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, eLoran system has been introduced as backup to global navigation systems like GPS, because of their vulnerability. eLoran is a low frequency (100 kHz) system. Its long wavelength allows indoor positioning.
Main eLoran advantages rather than Loran-C are: better accuracy (near 10m), using 9th pulse positioning modulation (PPM) as loran data channel (LDC) and all-in-view receivers
In this thesis, eLoran pulses are simulated in GRI. Also, a new analoge-digital circuit for faster pulse detection is developed.
Also, it is proved that an oscillator with same frequency and phase as enterance signal, responses faster than a band pass filter and envelope detector. So, a...

Modeling of Yield Behavior of Rubber Modified Epoxies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abbasi, Mohammad (Author) ; Kuchakzadeh, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Because of increasing usage of modified polymers and consequent necessity for investigation and modeling of mechanical behavior of these materials, it is important to get a yield criterion for these materials. For this purpose the Gurson yield criterion presented for porous metals, was modified with regard to mechanical properties of polymers. Indeed pressure sensitivity of polymers and their large elastic strain during deformation, makes using of Gurson yield criterion problematic for modified polymers.
For modification of Gurson criterion, macroscopic hydrostatic yield stress equation was derived for a thick-walled spherical shell of epoxy and then Gurson criterion was modified with...

Energy Loss of a Heavy Quark Moving Through Quark-Gluon Plasma

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Abbasi, Navid (Author) ; Arfaei, Hessamaddin (Supervisor) ; Davody, Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the approaches to study the plasma phase of quantum chromodynamics is to investigate the motion of probes in the quark-gluon plasma. In the case of a moving heavy quark, the medium affects the quark by exerting a drag force on it. Since we finally detect hadron jets in detectors, the goal is to compute the darg force formula in a form compatible with the espectrum of final hadrons. On the other hand due to strong coupling, perturbative methods fail in the medium. So a nonperturbative method is needed. We use gauge gravity duality and compute the drag force exerted on a heavy quark in the hydrodynamic regime, up to first order in derivative expansion

    Abstract
In the present study the hot deformation behavior and the effect of hor rolling variables on the shape memory properties of a Ni-Ti shape memory alloy was studied. In order to simulate the hot compression test Abaqus softeware was employd. The results proved the pronounced increase in the specimen temperature at high strain rates and low temperatures (47 °C at strain rate of 1 s-1 and temperature of 700 °C). Thus, the effect temperature rise due to deformation heating on the characterisitics of the flow curves was eliminated. Afterwards, the corrected constitutive equation of the alloy was obtained and the rolling plan was designed. Shape memory measurments showed that two-way shape memory...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abbasi, Ali Asghar (Author) ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor) ; Vossoughi, Golamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Grasping and manipulation of biological cells have an extensive applications in genetics ,cell proliferation ,cell injection and etc. In robotic manipulation ,it is often assumed that the objects being handled are rigid and only small deformations occurred during manipulation. this does not apply for the case of biological cells. biological cells are highly deformable structures, and their material properties are not well quantified. Therefore strategies for characterizing and manipulating of such deformable objects needs to develop. Different experimental techniques have recently been used and devised to study biological cells. On the one hand, although this experimental techniques have...

Numerical investigation of effects of uniform magnetic field on heat transfer around a sphere

    , Article International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer ; Volume 114 , 2017 , Pages 703-714 ; 00179310 (ISSN) Abbasi, Z ; Molaei Dehkordi, A ; Abbasi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2017
    Abstract
In this article, ferrohydrodynamic forced-convection heat transfer from a heated sphere embedded in a ferrofluid in the presence of the uniform external magnetic field has been studied numerically for the first time over a wide range of Reynolds number value, nanoparticle diameter, particle volume fraction, and magnetic field intensity. Despite the uniform external magnetic field applied, the internal magnetic field near the sphere could be nonuniform due to the considerable difference between the relative magnetic permeability of the sphere and the surrounding medium. Kelvin body force arises from this nonuniformity and induces vortexes near the sphere. These vortexes disturb the boundary...

    Abstract
Price of oil is important for the economies of oil exporting and oil importing countries alike. Therefore, insight into the likely future behaviour and patterns of oil prices can improve economic planning and reduce the impacts of oil market fluctuations. This paper aims to improve the application of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) techniques to prediction of oil price. We develop a dynamic Nonlinear Auto Regressive model with eXogenous input (NARX) as a form of ANN to account for the time factor. We estimate the model using macroeconomic data from OECD countries. In order to compare the results, we develop time series and ANN static models. We then use the output of time series model to...

    Abstract
Although different procedures have been proposed to calculate the parameters of Archie's (1942) equation, most of them suffer from lack of accuracy because these are not solved simultaneously In this article, by applying two novel methods, a modified genetic algorithm (MGA) and homogeneous distribution of parameters (HDP), the above-mentioned unknown parameters were determined simultaneously. Furthermore, for two case studies using two data sets from Permian Glerito and Permian Clearfork reservoirs, a comparison is made between other methods (e.g., traditional graphical method and SmnaM; Frailey et al., 2001) and the proposed methods that demonstrated the greater accuracy of the two newly...
